RACHEL NYSTROM
RACHEL NYSTROM
Rachel Nystrom began practicing yoga in 1999 and became a dedicated, daily practitioner of the Ashtanga method in 2002. Her first trip to Mysore, India, to study with the lineage was in 2008, marking the beginning of twelve extended trips to study with the late R. Sharath Jois.

Rachel is deeply grateful to her teacher, R. Sharath Jois, for encouraging her to share the practice and granting her authorization to teach in 2010. She founded Ashtanga Yoga Houston in 2012—the first traditional Mysore program in the city led by an authorized Ashtanga teacher. Rachel holds Level 2 Authorization and is qualified to teach the full Primary and Intermediate Series.

Originally from Connecticut, Rachel has been a licensed Physical Therapist for nearly 30 years, bringing a deep understanding of movement, anatomy, and the musculoskeletal system to her teaching.

Rachel views the Ashtanga Yoga method as a path of personal transformation—one that offers profound insight into all aspects of oneself. She believes that continuity of practice is the key to developing this awareness and experiencing the full benefits of the method.
